Gringotts Bank at Universal Orlando

Gringotts Bank at Universal Orlando

Gringotts Bank is the only bank in the wizarding world, and it is owned and operated by goblins such as this handsome fellow:

He was working at the Gringotts Money Exchange, where visitors can exchange U.S. currency for official Gringotts Bank Notes. This currency can then be used at  Universal Orlando or kept as souvenirs. While you are there, he will interact with you, answer questions, etc., but be warned: he’s about as friendly as he looks.

There is a thrill ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. I did not go on the ride, however, as I am a wimp of the highest order and cannot ride even a merry-go-round without feeling a little queasy. Escape from Gringotts is essentially a roller coast ride, mostly in the the dark, with special effects and scenes from the Harry Potter movies.

Outside the ride entrance, there is a statue of Gringott the goblin, founder of the bank bearing his name, standing on a pile of gold coins.

The focal point of Diagon Alley is the Gringotts building, with a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon perched atop it. Quite an imposing sight! But even more impressive is that several times an hour, he reminds you of why he was chosen to guard Gringott’s gold:
