National Corvette Museum, KY
In case you’re wondering why a Corvette museum is located in Bowling Green, KY, of all places, it’s because there is only one General Motors plant that manufactures Corvettes and it is located in — you guessed it — Bowling Green.
As we pulled into the museum and drove to the parking area, we couldn’t help but notice the eight or so signs that warned “SAFETY FIRST — NO BURNOUTS.” It was a Corvette owners’ drive-in weekend, and there were plenty of Corvettes outside the museum to gawk at.
Inside, there were a wide variety of Corvettes to see; the entrance hall was lined with them.
My favorite was the first model ever made, a 1953 Corvette.
but I also liked the 1963 model:
In the Skydome, the round exhibit hall under which a sinkhole opened a few years ago, we saw the 1 millionth Corvette ever made:
We also saw the Corvette that was an Indy concept car.
There was also a good deal of information about the evolution of how the car was made and so on. I breezed through most of it because, as with the Historic Rail Park, it just didn’t hold a lot of interest for me. But for folks who love sportscars? Definitely a must-see attraction. You can even order yourself a Corvette and have it delivered to the museum:
